Arrive at Suzhou Railway Station or Shanghai Hongqiao (transfer via high-speed rail to Suzhou), where a private car takes you to your hotel. In the afternoon, explore the Humble Administrator's Garden, the foremost of China's Four Great Classical Gardens. This Ming Dynasty masterpiece is centered on water, with pavilions and towers artfully arranged — every step reveals a new vista, showcasing the delicate beauty of Jiangnan garden design. Then visit the Suzhou Museum, designed by the legendary architect I.M. Pei, where modern architecture and traditional garden aesthetics blend seamlessly. The building itself is a work of art, and the collection within is equally impressive.

In the morning, head to Tiger Hill — Su Dongpo once said, 'It is a great pity to visit Suzhou without seeing Tiger Hill.' The Tiger Hill Pagoda (Yunyan Temple Pagoda), often called the 'Leaning Tower of the East,' has stood at a tilt for a thousand years yet remains steadfast. Next, visit the Lingering Garden, one of Suzhou's four great classical gardens, celebrated for its masterful spatial design. At dusk, stroll along Shantang Street, known as the 'First Street of Gusu.' This historic thoroughfare follows the canal and offers Suzhou-style noodles, osmanthus cake, and other local delicacies.

After breakfast, drive to Zhouzhuang (approximately 1 hour), a 900-year-old town hailed as 'China's Number One Water Town.' Stroll across the Twin Bridges and Fu'an Bridge, take a scull boat ride through the canals, and visit Shen Hall and Zhang Hall to glimpse the lifestyle of wealthy Jiangnan merchants. In the afternoon, sip a cup of Biluochun tea at a riverside teahouse, soaking in the poetic scene of 'small bridges, flowing water, and humble homes.' Return to Suzhou in the evening.

In the morning, take the high-speed rail to Nanjing (approximately 1 hour). Upon arrival, head to the Zhongshan Mountain Scenic Area. First, visit the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum — climb the 392 stone steps to pay respects at the final resting place of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and take in the solemn grandeur. Then explore the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, the tomb of Ming Dynasty founder Zhu Yuanzhang. The Sacred Way is lined with lifelike stone animal statues, and in autumn the ginkgo and maple trees create a breathtaking canopy of color.

In the morning, visit the Presidential Palace, a living chronicle of modern Chinese history that witnessed the rise and fall of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and the Nationalist Government. In the afternoon, explore the Confucius Temple–Qinhuai River Scenic Belt and visit the Jiangnan Examination Hall to learn about the imperial examination system. At dusk, board a painted pleasure boat for a Qinhuai River night cruise. Lanterns line both banks, evoking the ancient verse: 'Mist veils the cold water, moonlight shrouds the sand; I moor at night by Qinhuai, close to the taverns.' Sample Nanjing specialties like duck blood and vermicelli soup and salted duck along the Confucius Temple snack street.

In the morning, visit the Nanjing Museum, one of China's top three museums. Its extensive collection spans millennia, and the faithfully recreated Republican-era street scene is a highlight. Then take a leisurely walk through Xuanwu Lake Park, the largest imperial garden lake in China, where gentle ripples meet views of the Zifeng Tower and ancient Ming City Wall. A private car will transfer you to the airport or railway station according to your departure schedule, concluding this dual-city cultural journey.

Suzhou focuses on classical gardens and water towns that deserve unhurried appreciation, while Nanjing centers on history and culture with relatively concentrated attractions. The high-speed rail between the two cities takes only about 1 hour, making it very convenient. If time is limited, you can trim one day from each city.

The Humble Administrator's Garden is the largest classical garden in Suzhou, renowned for its water features and spacious, open layout — often called the 'Mother of Chinese Gardens.' The Lingering Garden is smaller but more exquisitely detailed, celebrated for its ingenious architectural spatial transitions. Its Corwn Cloud Peak, a magnificent Taihu Lake stone, is one of the three most famous stones in Jiangnan. Both gardens have their own distinct charm, and we recommend visiting both for a complete appreciation of Suzhou's garden artistry.
