Route Overview: Three Cities + One Signature Segment

The ten-day reference allocates three days to Beijing, two to Xi’an, two to Shanghai and three to either Jiangnan or Guilin. Transport depends on actual schedules and connections; the Guilin option is not an all-rail inclusion. Daily activities, ticket categories and costs require confirmation.

Segment One: Beijing, 3 Days

Beijing sets the tone for the whole trip. Front-load the heavyweights while energy is high.

• Day 1: Forbidden City (morning, ~4 hours) + Jingshan Park for the panoramic rooftop view over the palace + evening stroll along Qianmen or Wangfujing
• Booking assistance, transfers, guides and special experiences mentioned here require individual confirmation for your dates and needs. They are not automatically included or guaranteed; the written plan must specify availability, scope and cost.
• Day 3: Temple of Heaven (morning) + a hutong rickshaw tour around Shichahai + a proper Peking duck dinner to close the segment

Segment Two: Xi'an, 2 Days

Confirm the Beijing–Xi’an service, stations and transfer time for your dates. Plan Xi’an around the old city, historical sites and local food; travel time is not sightseeing time.

• Day 4: Terracotta Warriors in the morning (hire a guide or use the audio tour — without context it is just a very large pit) + city wall on return; the wall is bikeable end to end
• For day 5, discuss Shaanxi History Museum or Tang Paradise, then select city activities around reservations and the actual transfer. Until the Shanghai travel date and service are confirmed, these activities are not promised for the same day.

Segment Three: Shanghai, 2 Days

Xi'an to Shanghai is the trip's great gear change — from millennium-old capital to the most futuristic skyline in the country. That contrast is exactly why the route works.

• Day 6: Yu Garden and City God Temple bazaar (morning) + the Bund's colonial waterfront + cross the river for night views from Shanghai Tower or the SWFC observatory
• Day 7: a slow morning in the leafy former French Concession (Wukang Road to Anfu Road) + Xintiandi or Tianzifang; keep it light and save energy for the final segment

Segment Four: Jiangnan or Guilin?

The last three days are the customizable module. Pick by temperament:

• This is a transport-planning reference. Trains, flights, stations, transfers, road conditions and ticket options must be checked for the travel dates. Fixed journey times, same-day connections and direct combinations of existing itineraries are not guaranteed.
• For Guilin, discuss the Li River, Yangshuo and local performances. Confirm Shanghai–Guilin transport, the actual cruise or raft section, age conditions, opening and show tickets. These activities are not interchangeable transfer services.

Pacing and Pitfall Notes

• Check official holidays for your travel year and actual fares, room rates and demand rather than assuming a price multiplier.
• Keep half a day unbooked around day 5 or day 9 — weather happens, and so do places you will want to linger in
